Een groep Franse wetenschappers hebben een eeuw geleden onderzoek gedaan naar Tamanu olie.  Zij ontdekten dat Tamanu olie verbindingen bevat welke positieve effecten heeft op de spieren, littekens vermindert en genezing van beschadigd huid versnelt.

Het is dus geen wonder, dat pure Tamanu olie wordt gewaardeerd voor  soepele spieren en gewrichten, beschadigd huid. De Melanesiërs gebruikten de olie tevens bij artritis, reuma, en zelfs verzachtend voor de keel (door het toepassen van een paar druppels pure Tamanu olie direct aan te brengen in de nek).
